Baseball Travels to Midway For Non-Conference Matchup
Lindsey Wilson (10-6, 2-3 MSC) is coming off a doubleheader split with MSC foe Wilberforce on Sunday. The Bulldogs won game one 11-10, using a two-out rally to score four runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to earn the come-from-behind victory. Strong pitching and an eleven-run sixth inning powered the Blue Raiders to a 12-1 victory in game two.
Against the Bulldogs, Matthew Schultz totaled four hits and five RBIs while Trent Floden added four hits and four RBIs. Jordan Blick hit a home run in both games and leads the team with seven homers on the season.
Jonathan Phipps earned the win in game two, allowing one hit, one run, three walks and recording eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Phipps and Cohen Achen lead the Blue Raider pitching staff with three wins each on the season.
Midway (7-9, 2-1 RSC) is coming off a 2-1 series victory over WVU Tech. The Eagles scored five runs off three home runs in the ninth inning to secure the series in the rubber match on Monday.
Grant Hotchkiss leads the Eagles in hits (19) and RBIs (18) on the season. On the mound, no pitcher has more than one win for Midway in the early 2023 campaign. Blake Kincaid leads the staff in innings pitched (20.2) and Owen Clark has recorded the most strikeouts (23).
The Blue Raiders defeated the Eagles last year 12-2 in seven innings at Egnew Park. Gabe Board racked up four hits and two RBIs in the contest and Chance Stayton added three hits and four RBIs. Riley Monheimer and Nick Backstrom combined for a strong performance in the circle, allowing one run each.
