Baseball falls to No. 21 Bryan 6-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson baseball stranded 13 runners on base in a 6-1 loss to No. 21-ranked Bryan (Tenn.) today at Egnew Park.

After a 16-14 slugfest in the first meeting this season -- a Bryan win in Dayton, Tennessee in late February -- the two pitching staffs continuously pitched out of jams to keep the game low-scoring and close throughout.

Bryan (16-4) scored a single run in the first, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead.

Brandon Wilson -- who suffered the loss -- limited the high-powered Lion bats to three runs on seven hits over his five innings of work.

The Blue Raiders (6-8) stranded a runner in each of the first three innings but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth -- in what turned out to be an unfortunate theme during the game. Lindsey Wilson ultimately left bases loaded three times in the game.

Bryan's Trevor Ferguson -- who entered the game with just 8-1/3 innings on the season and no outing lasting more than two innings -- kept the Blue Raiders off the scoreboard through six innings despite allowing seven hits and three walks. Ferguson finished the game allowing one run on nine hits in seven innings to pick up the win.

Trailing 6-0 entering the home half of the seventh inning, Ty Menrath and Nico Martinez recorded back-to-back doubles to open the inning. Derek Zavala picked up the lone Lindsey Wilson RBI in the game with a ground out to shortstop to cut the deficit to 6-1.

Ferguson forced a pop out and a fly ball to end the Lindsey Wilson threat and keep the Lions in front 6-1. Jared Price pitched two scoreless innings for the Lions to secure the win.

The Lindsey Wilson bullpen also produced a solid outing in relief of Wilson. Jake McDaniel, Kyle Collin, and Jalen Riley surrendered three runs on five hits over the final four innings.

Martinez, Zavala, and Kelvin Llanos each ended the game with two hits to lead the Blue Raider offense.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 10, as the Blue Raiders travel to No. 11-ranked Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana.
