BASEBALL SCORES SEASON-HIGH 20 RUNS IN WIN OVER SHAWNEE STATE; TAKE MSC OPENING ROUND SERIES

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team punched their ticket to the Mid-South Conference Tournament final site in dominating fashion with a 20-5 win over Shawnee State (Ohio.). The Blue Raider offense exploded for 19 hits in the contest with three being home runs.

With the win, the Blue Raiders advance to the MSC Tournament final site for the first time since the 2018 season.

Kelvin Llanos went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored while Lucas Bault managed three hits in his four plate appearances. Five Blue Raiders tallied two hits during the contest as Tyler Maskill led the way with four RBI's as Nico Martinez and Derick Zavala added three.

Shawnee State opened the scoring as Jacob Kline sent a solo home run over the left-centerfield fence in the first. The Blue Raiders responded with a run of their own in the inning. After loading the bases with no outs, LWC finally broke through with two outs.

Maskill reached on a fielder's choice, as Derick Zavala beat the Bears throw to second for the force out. Ty Menrath scored from third on the play after reaching base to lead off the inning with a single.

The Bears quickly regained the lead in the second when Damion Coleman hit Shawnee State's second home run of the game and the 12th of the series.

Lindsey Wilson took control of the game in the third inning as they were able to push six runs home. A Seth Price bunt was misplayed by the Bears pitcher as his throw went into the outfield allowing Rayno and Zavala to both score. Later in the inning, Martinez took one deep to left field that scored Price on a two-run home run.

Menrath closed out the scoring after his two-RBI double to deep right-center field scored Kelvin llanos and Cody Fallon.

Shawnee State pushed another run home on the fourth inning on two hits as they cut the Lindsey Wilson leads to 7-3.

Lindsey Wilson continued their offensive surge in the fourth inning pushing seven more runs home to increase their lead to 14-3. The Blue Raiders made use of seven hits and one Shawnee State error. Maskill hit a two-run home run as Zavala managed a two-run shot of his own.

The Blue Raiders added three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the game after seven innings 20-5.

Up next for the Blue Raiders is action at the MSC Tournament final site in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Contests will be played on May 5-9 at Bowling Green Ballpark.
