Baseball Heads to Freed-Hardeman for MSC Opening Round

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team travels to Henderson, Tenn. to face off against Freed-Hardeman University for the Opening Round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

The ten-seeded Blue Raiders (17-25, 9-17 MSC) and the three-seeded Lions (32-17, 17-10 MSC) will play a best-of-three series, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 12 p.m. CT. The if-necessary game will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. The winner will advance to the double-elimination bracket held in Bowling Green Ballpark.

Lindsey Wilson recently faced off against Freed-Hardeman, dropping all three contests to the Lions (19-4, 13-2, and 17-3) last weekend. Chance Stayton had a team-leading four hits in the series and Jordan Blick had a team-leading three RBIs. Blick hit two home runs on the weekend and now leads the Blue Raiders with eleven homeruns on the season. Stayton leads the Blue Raiders in hits on the season with 53.

Nick Backstrom had a career-high six strikeouts in game one and held the powerful Lion offense scoreless in 3.1 innings of work. Bailey Turner also found success on the mound, retiring five of the six batters he faced in game two.

Freed-Hardeman used power, speed, and solid pitching to take the series over Lindsey Wilson. The Lions totaled 49 runs, 42 hits, nine home runs and went nine-of-ten on stolen base attempts on the weekend. The Lions held the Blue Raiders to nine runs through the three contests.

Four Lions had a team-leading six hits in the series and Zach Sanders earned a team-leading eleven RBIs.

Freed-Hardeman closed out the regular-season with a midweek contest on Wednesday. The Lions fell 15-5 at No. 2 LSU Shreveport.

First pitch in Five Wells Field is set for 12 p.m. CT on Friday.
