Patriots March Back to Down Men’s Tennis
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - At UC Tennis Complex, the Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team fell in a match down the wire, to the No. 18-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.), 4-3, on Monday evening after the Saturday start saw the match postponed until today.
In the doubles portion of the match, Tiago Almeida and Ilyas Kouchairi downed Max Nijssen and Sjoerd Nijssen, 6-3, putting the pairing at 7-0 on the season. Martin Muller and Hung Ju Wu defeated Firas Ben Chouikha and Santiago Diaz (5-1), 6-2, followed by the Blue Raiders securing the doubles point with Jan Silhavy and Lucas Marques defeating Mattis Le Montagner and Juanchi Alcon, 6-3, for their second win as a paring on the season.
In singles play, No. 20-ranked Silhavy made quick work of No. 35-ranked Muller in a 6-0, 6-0, decision, pushing him to 13-0 in singles play on the season. No. 25-ranked Le Montagner defeated Ben Chouikha (5-6), 6-1, 6-1, leading into Killian Surmont downing Kouchairi (5-5), 6-3, 6-3, and putting the scorebook at a 2-2 tie. Shortly after, the match would be postponed until Monday after the weather made the playing surface unfit to continue the matches.
Following the resuming of the match, No. 48-ranked Almeida would kick off Monday with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, epic victory over Christian de La Fuente, for Almeida's thirteenth victory on the season. The Patriots would then mount a comeback as Ju Wu defeated Diaz (5-1) 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, putting the victory for either squad to rest on the No. 6 match. Cumberlands would emerge victorious as Lucas Augotr downed Anatoliy Voloshyn (6-5) 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, securing the 4-3 victory.
The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team will be back in action for their Mid-South Conference finale where they will hit the road to take on Pikeville on Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. CST at Bob Amos Complex.
