Men’s Tennis Falls to Cardinal Stritch 4-2 in First Round of NAIA Championship
MOBILE, Ala. - The No. 16-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team was defeated by No. 17 seed Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) Tuesday in the first round of the NAIA National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Frias Ben Chouikha and Santiago Diaz picked up a 6-4 victory over Daniel Vishnick and Jasper Schaadt at No. 1 singles. Cardinal Stritch would then win the next two doubles matches to take the point.
Tiago Almeida and Ilyas Kouchairi fell at No. 3 doubles 7-6 (7-5) to Adrian Gomez and Daniel Ezcurra. Cardinal Stritch took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 7-6 (7-2) victory from Reuben Giorgio and Giovanni Vitali over Jan Silhavy and Anatoliy Voloshyn at No. 2 doubles.
Silhavy and Almeida were the only two Blue Raiders to win in singles play. Silhavy defeated Giorgio 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Almeida defeated Vitali 6-4, 6-4 in No. 4 singles.
Chouikha fell to Vishnick 1-6, 4-6 at No. 2 singles while Voloshyn fell to Danali Banov 6-4, 1-6, 2-6 at No. 3 singles. Diaz fell at No. 6 singles 0-6, 3-6 to Jasper Schaadt.
The Blue Raiders finish the season with a 14-8 overall record.
