Wrestling Competes at Grand View Open
PLEASANT HILLS, Iowa. – The Lindsey Wilson wrestling team competed at the Grand View Open on Saturday.
Adrian Ayala was the only Blue Raider to finish on the podium, taking home sixth place of the 141-pound open division with a 3-2 record. He dropped his opening match on a 4-3 TB-1 decision loss to Stephen Robertson of Marian (Ind.). He then picked up a 6-5 decision over Donavan Parn of Missouri Valley before a medical forfeiture advanced him another round.
Ayala then managed a 11-8 decision over Jody McAlister of Life (Ga.) before downing Blake Cushing of Nebraska on a 5-2 decision. He then lost on a 7-2 decision to Shea Ruffridge in the consolation semifinals and took sixth when he medically forfeited his final match.
Arlo Laxton turned in a 5-1 record at the event in the 133-pound freshman sophomore bracket with three decision and two falls. His decision came at 3-1 over Thomas Ivey of Concordia (Mich.), 3-1 over Hunter Vernon of Quincy, and 4-2 over Jose Gonzalez of Life (Ga.). His pins came against Trenton Silva of Iowa Western and Sabri Sino of William Penn.
Jesus Avila went 2-2 at the event, picking up a major decision and a decision. His major decision came in the form of a 20-7 result over LWC teammate Lucas Saunier as he later downed Tavion Thomas of William Penn on a 10-4 result.
Nick Hejke also went 2-2 at the event, competing in the freshman and sophomore bracket. He recorded pins over Brock Donnelly, who wrestled unattached, and Ethan Hunt of Missouri Valley.
Lindsey Wilson is back on the mat on Nov. 20th when they compete at the Life Open in Marietta, Georgia.
