Wrestling goes 4-0 at Campbellsville Duals
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson wrestling team opened their dual season in style with four wins at the Campbellsville Duals on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders downed Brewton-Parker (Ga.) 39-9, Lourdes (Ohio) 30-7, Rochester (Mich.) 31-9, and Williams Baptist (Ark.) 49-3.
Lindsey Wilson 39 – Brewton-Parker 9
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead after a forfeit win to open wrestling while Arlo Laxton then won on a 16-0 technical fall over Keyshaun Taylor at 3:40.
Brewton Parker picked up wins at 141 and 157-pounds taking a decision and injury win for their nine points in the match. Between the LWC losses, the Blue Raiders Isaiah Dejesus downed Bradley Owens on a 5-1 decision. Lindsey Wilson led 14-9 at the halfway point.
The Blue Raiders picked up a quick 12 points after back-to-back forfeits before Joseph Koontz pinned Charles Henkel at 3:33 of the 184-pound weight class to push the LWC advantage to 32-9.
At 197-pounds Chris Greil managed a 7-1 decision over Jeronia Jones while Carlos Figueroa closed out the match with a commanding 14-1 major decision over Wilkinson Sail.
Lindsey Wilson 30 – Lourdes 7
Lindsey Wilson raced out to a commanding 16-0 lead in the match after winning the first four bouts. Conner Diamond kicked things off with a close 4-3 decision over Nick Rodriguez before Easton Lipsey won on an 11-5 decision over Cole Mckinley. Adrian Ayala produced a 14-2 major decision over Landon Engle before a forfeit ran the Blue Raiders' lead to 16 points.
Lourdes claimed their first points of the match at 157-pounds when Derick Coleman defeated Nick Hejke on a 9-1 major decision.
Corey Cannon and Koontz picked up decision wins over Noah Clary and William Speight at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively. The wins increased the LWC lead to 26-4.
Greil fell to Carter Kroll on a close 8-4 decision before Niko Bussell closed out the match with a 10-2 major decision over Joe Dreisbach.
Lindsey Wilson 31 – Rochester 9
Diamond opened the match with an 11-3 major decision win over Connor Crinigan before Rochester bounced back when Santos Alvarez defeated Arlo Laxton on an 8-2 decision. The Blue Raiders added six points to push their lead to 10-3 with a forfeit at 141-pounds.
Dejesus picked up a 7-1 decision win over Emilio Mangrobang but Rochester's Austin Wolford recorded a pin victory at 157-pounds. The result cut the LWC lead to 13-9 midway through the match but LWC won the final five matches to easily collect their third win of the afternoon.
Mathew Hendricks downed Julius Polk on an 8-4 decision before Cory Cannon produced an 18-3 technical fall over Kirgin Tanis. Gabe Smith defeated Jerrod Mullins on a 9-5 decision while Greil dominated Durell Kline on an 11-2 major decision.
Bussell closed out the match with a 5-3 sudden victory decision over Jackson Schenk.
Lindsey Wilson 49 – Williams Baptist 3
The Blue Raiders dominated their final match of the afternoon winning nine of 10 matches.
Diamond, Dejesus, and Hendricks all won their bouts by fall while Smith collected a major decision win. Greil and Hejke won their matches by decision as LWC collected their remaining points via Williams Baptist's forfeits.
Lindsey Wilson returns home on Saturday when they host the NAIA Challenge Duals at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center.
