COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team got back on the winning track on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus, 6-1, at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

The Blue Raiders' latest triumph snaps a six-game drought and gets the locals off on the right foot for the final week of the regular season.

Runs came early for the offense in this contest as Lindsey Wilson struck first in the opening inning for the first time in five games.

Desiree Chang, who led off the frame with a single to center field, was first to come across thanks to an infield miscue by the Crimson Pride. Then, in the second inning, Madyson Jones sized up a no-doubter toward the Cumberland Parkway, extending the lead to 2-0 with her third home run of the season.

The onslaught continued later on in the second when another error by the visitors allowed Brylee Pickerell and Brooklynn Ott to score. What followed that was another bomb of a hit to straight-away center field, this time off the bat of Alexis Garayzar for her fifth of the year. The fence-clearing shot also plated Za'Kiya Sizemore to run the local's advantage up to 6-0.

Lindsey Wilson's defense surrendered only one run on two hits across the final four innings, courtesy of a stellar performance by Grace Adams in the circle where she ended up retiring seven on strikes, tying her career-high.

The Blue Raiders will see a couple of days of rest now with inclement weather expected in the area on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, however, the skies are clear for a doubleheader with the University of Pikeville beginning at 1 p.m. CST.
