Women's Basketball Blows By Indiana Southeast in Season Opener

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team opened its 2023-24 campaign with an offensive showcase on Tuesday evening at Indiana Southeast. For just the second time in the last five years, the Blue Raiders cracked the century mark and defeated the homestanding Grenadiers 107-70.
Six different scorers broke into double figures on the evening, including Amelia Hodges for a career-high-tying 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Meanwhile, Lucy Patterson also tied a personal best with 17 points, Jordyn Stephens added 14, Sydnie Hall notched 11, and Emily Cox and Natalie Gentry each chipped in 10.
The Blue Raiders and Indiana Southeast were knotted at 21-21 after the first ten minutes of action. That deadlock quickly broke open on a 16-2 run by the visitors over the first five minutes of the second quarter. Lindsey Wilson utilized a heavy presence on the glass to help aid its separation from the Grenadiers. A 13-4 rebounding edge in the second quarter helped the Blue Raiders outscore Indiana Southeast 10-3 on second-chance points and 32-12 altogether.
The home team scored first out of the locker room break, but back-to-back three-pointers by Hall and Stephens gave momentum right back to Lindsey Wilson, and from there the Blue Raiders had a response to every Grenadier basket.
A jump shot by Jarie Thomas with 4:03 left in the fourth quarter pushed Lindsey Wilson to triple digits and the rest was smooth sailing.
All told, the Blue Raiders outrebounded Indiana Southeast 42-23 and shot 58.3 percent from the floor.
Thomas pulled down a team-high seven boards, and Gentry totaled three blocks.
Lindsey Wilson travels to Murray, Kentucky at 6 p.m. CST on Thursday for an early-season exhibition game against Murray State University.
