Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Welch 96-47 in Home Opener

COLUMBIA, Ky. -  The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Welch 96-47 Tuesday in the home opener at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (4-1) shot 54.4 percent and limited the Flames (1-4) to just 27.4 percent from the field. Lindsey Wilson connected on 17-of-21 attempts from the charity stripe. Claire Fleming scored a career-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting while going 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Taylor Guess added 14 points while Sydnie Hall and Janiya Davis each scored 10 points. Davis also recorded a game-high nine rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson took control early in the first quarter scoring the first nine points. Following five quick points by the Flames, the Blue Raiders increased their lead to 16-5 with 4:08 to play in the quarter after a 7-0 run. Lindsey Wilson ended the first quarter scoring five of the final seven points to lead 21-9.

The Blue Raiders started the second quarter on an 11-2 run to increase their lead to 32-11. After a made Welch free throw, Lindsey Wilson scored the next 12 points to lead 44-12 with 4:02 to play in the half. The Blue Raiders capped off their strong first half ending it on a 13-5 run to take a 57-20 lead into the locker room.

In the first half, Lindsey Wilson shot 63.6 percent from the field. The Blue Raiders outscored the Flames 39-27 in the second half. Lindsey Wilson shot 45.7 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes as they got the 96-47 victory.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT Friday when they travel to Pippa Passes, Kentucky to take on Alice Lloyd.
