Women’s Basketball Defeats Johnson 68-63

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Johnson (Tenn.) 68-63 Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (8-2) shot 38.6 percent from the field and converted on 25-of-32 shots from the charity stripe. Lucy Patterson led the way for Lindsey Wilson recording a double-double with a season-high 25 points while matching a season-high in rebounds with 13. Patterson connected on seven of her 10 shots while converting 11-14 attempts from the free-throw line. Jarie Thomas also recorded a double-double scoring a season-high 14 points and recording 10 rebounds. Taylor Guess also scored in double figures with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

The Blue Raiders trailed 8-4 in the first quarter after a 5-0 run by the Royals. Lindsey Wilson then scored the next eight points to jump in front 12-8 with under four minutes remaining. Johnson then went on a 5-1 run to tie the game at 13. The Blue Raiders ended the first quarter scoring four of the final six points to lead 17-15.

Johnson opened the second quarter scoring the first six points take a 21-17 lead. Lindsey Wilson answered going on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 23 with 6:18 to play in the half. The Royals then scored seven of the next nine points to lead 30-25. The Blue Raiders trailed 35-29 before trimming the deficit to 38-35 going into halftime.

Lindsey Wilson opened the third quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 41-40 lead. Johnson answered scoring the next six points to lead 46-41 with 6:13 to play in the quarter. The Blue Raiders tied the game at 48 with a 7-2 run. Johnson ended the third quarter on a 6-1 run to take a 54-49 advantage.

The Blue Raiders got off to a fast start in the fourth scoring the first 11 points to lead 60-54. Guess converted a pair of free throws to give Lindsey Wilson a 62-57 lead before Johnson scored the next six points to lead 63-62 with two minutes to play. The Blue Raiders ended the game on a 6-0 run converting on all six of their attempts from the charity stripe in the final two minutes.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 7 p.m. CT on Dec. 8 when they take on Harris-Stowe State in day one of the Bethel University Classic in McKenzie, Tenn.
