Women’s Soccer Defeats Shawnee State 3-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio) Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Gabby Duerson stopped all eight shots she faced to record the shutout for the Blue Raiders. Silvia Marchesi scored two goals and also added an assist. Ashiat Naluggwa also scored in the victory.

The Blue Raiders held a 14-10 advantage in shots over Shawnee State (0-3) while the Bears had a slight edge in shots on goal 8-6.

Naluggwa got the home side on the board first in the 10th minute. Marchesi fired a shot that deflected off the Bear goalkeeper and Naluggwa put it in the back of the net off the rebound. Shawnee State had four chances on goal in the first half all of which were turned away by Duerson.

Marchesi increased the LWC lead to 2-0 early in the second half. She got past the defenders and into the box and was able to curl it past the Bear keeper in the 47th minute. Marchesi added her second goal of the night in the 59th minute. She took advantage of a mistake by the Bears defense and fired a shot past the keeper. Duerson remained strong in goal in the second half stopping for Shawnee State shots.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Sunday when they host No. 5 William Carey (Miss.) at 7 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
