Baseball Set to Host Lourdes and No. 17 Georgetown
COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team is set to host Lourdes University (Ohio) in a non-conference matchup on Thursday, before facing off against No. 17-ranked Georgetown College (Ky.) in a three-game series this weekend.
Baseball on Thursday is set to start at 3 p.m. CT. The series against Georgetown will start at 3 p.m. CT on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. CT.
Lindsey Wilson (10-6, 2-3 MSC) is coming off a doubleheader split with MSC foe Wilberforce on Sunday. The Bulldogs won game one 11-10, using a two-out rally to score four runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to earn the come-from-behind victory. Strong pitching and an eleven-run sixth inning powered the Blue Raiders to a 12-1 victory in game two.
Against the Bulldogs, Matthew Schultz totaled four hits and five RBIs while Trent Floden added four hits and four RBIs. Jordan Blick hit a home run in both games and leads the team with seven homers on the season.
Jonathan Phipps earned the win in game two, allowing one hit, one run, three walks and recording eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Phipps and Cohen Achen lead the Blue Raider pitching staff with three wins each on the season.
Lourdes (3-6) defeated Montreat (N.C.) 10-0 on Monday and fell to Campbellsville (Ky.) 11-4 on Wednesday. Joel Suraganan leads the way for the Gray Wolves in hits (12) and home runs (2). Wyatt Smith is the only pitcher for Lourdes that has pitched over ten innings. Smith is 1-0 on the season and has a 4.09 ERA.
After starting the season unranked, Georgetown (13-2, 3-0 MSC) has now ascended to No. 17 in the NAIA Baseball Top 25 Poll this week. The Tigers swept Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) last weekend, outscoring the Lions 38-27 in three contests. Georgetown followed that up with a doubleheader sweep over Cleary (Mich.) on Tuesday.
Hank Schineller leads the Tigers in hits (27), runs batted in (26), home runs (8), and posts the highest batting average on the team (.474). On the mound, Johan Castillo has a team-leading three wins and has pitched two of the staff's three complete games on the season. Castillo is ranked first in the Mid-South Conference in ERA (1.35). Josiah Zamora leads the Tiger pitching staff in innings pitched (22.2) and strikeouts (21).
The Blue Raiders dropped three close contests to the Tigers in Georgetown, Ky. last season.
