Baseball Falls to Lourdes 11-7
COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to Lourdes 11-7 Wednesday at Egnew Park.
Chance Stayton went 2-for-3 for the Blue Raiders (10-7) with a home run and two RBI's. Henry Paulino and Jaden Cockerel each had a pair of hits. Michael Sizemore drove in two runs while Cockerel drove in one.
Lourdes (4-6) struck for three runs in the first inning. Following a walk and a fly out, Ryan Jagodzinski double to give the Gray Wolves a 1-0 lead. Steve Haugh then hit a two-run home run to increase the Lourdes lead to 3-0. The Gray Wolves added a run in the second on a wild pitch to increase their lead to 4-0.
Paulino led off the bottom of the second with a double and then scored on a Cockerel single up the middle. Following a Trent Floden single, Sizemore brought in a pair of runs to cut the Lourdes lead to 4-3. Stayton tied the game with a solo home run.
Lourdes re-took the lead 6-4 in the fourth after a Jordan Hare two-RBI double. The Gray Wolves took control of the game in the fifth. After a leadoff error and a stolen base, Lourdes scored to increase its lead to 7-4. Later in the inning, Joel Suraganan hit a three-run home run to make it 10-4. Lourdes would add a run in the top half of the sixth to lead 11-4.
Stayton recorded an RBI-double in the seventh to trim the deficit to 11-5. The Gray Wolves would balk in a run to make it 11-6 heading to the eighth inning. In the eighth, Paulino scored on a throwing error which cut the deficit to 11-7.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday when they host Georgetown for game one of a three-game Mid-South Conference series. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at Egnew Park.
