COLUMBIA, Ky. – Fresh off its first pair of victories of the young season, the Lindsey Wilson softball team is back in action on Wednesday for the first true road series of the year. The Blue Raiders will travel north to Wilmore, Kentucky to meet Asbury University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. CST.

The locals snatched two wins this past weekend against Madonna University (Mich.), both by a single run. Desiree Chang and Brylee Pickerell led an offense that finished with a 0.224 batting average, contributing four hits and four runs batted in, and three hits and three runs batted in, respectively. Teammates Cheyenne Sandoval and Madyson Jones combined for six hits, including two doubles each, and Alexis Garayzar smacked one of the Blue Raiders' two home runs of the series.

Defensively, Elizabeth Funk's stellar effort at third base helped keep Lindsey Wilson in contention against the Crusaders throughout the weekend. Through six games so far this season, the junior is 23-for-23 on chances hit her way. Meanwhile, Abigail Cruz secured her first-career win in the circle as a Blue Raider, as well as her first save. The Yavapai College transfer actively ranks fourth in the Mid-South Conference with 12 strikeouts and has pitched more innings than any other player in the league – 22.2.

Asbury won its first game of the season with a 1-0 decision over Centre College (Ky.), but since then have lost five-straight.

The duo of Kaitlyn Wilson and Taylor Enlow pace the Eagles with identical 0.333 batting averages and six hits, and Kaylee Strunk (1-2) leads a small rotation behind a 3.00 earned-run average.

It has been ten years since Lindsey Wilson and Asbury last met on the dirt diamond. In six meetings overall, the Blue Raiders have outscored their in-state foe 38-1.
